Been down this several times. Even without the weather it's a white-knuckle ride. 40 years ago they didn't groom and maintain it nearly as well and we were in rented rag-top manual transmission jeeps, which made the switch backs even more fun. The last leg into Telluride is a series of 15 or so switch backs and you sure as hell didn't drive it one handed.

Here's what can happen if you're not constantly aware: (accident at 3:15)

I'm just dipping my toe into off roading and want to hit the Black Bear Pass someday.

Right now my family's '18 Ford Explorer is not set up to do any off roading. It will need some front end work and probably a decent lift kit. We bought it more for snow and bad weather.

My '19 Jeep Renegade will need more than a few upgrades before I can hit the harder trails. It doesn't have 4WD Low so I won't ever be able to do any hardcore rock crawling in it.
