I'm sure it's about as much toxins/carcinogens as breathing the fumes from overcooked bacon (which is an offense punishable by death). Who knows, maybe I'm slowly dying due to my nick-knack printing habits, but I've been printing in a fairly average sized room for some time now with no issues. ALTHOUGH that's with PLA... ABS is definitely a hazard, but if you're new to 3D printing and don't plan to drop $3,000+ on a printer, you won't be printing ABS anytime soon.
