Check out the Ender 3 by Creality. I currently use the Creality CR-10 which ran me just under $400 and takes up ~2'x2'. The Ender 3 is less expensive and smaller.
The Ender is just under $250 and about half the footprint of the CR-10. It is a very sturdy little machine and will do well if you feed it quality, dry PLA and know what you're doing with the slicer software.
