powerful brushless motor... hobby speed controller... potentiometer... simple 555 circuit

Now I'm wondering what I should be printing right now.

Almost all of components can be gotten on mouser.com for fairly cheap.

Here is an alternative, you still need some parts but you can print most of it easily. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6772685

I have been planning to print some but have not gotten around to it. They remind me of those tiny little cap-gun keychain things you could get back in the 90's or early 2000's. I had a couple and they were fun.

Those spool drawers are neat, I've considered making those before. I'll check out that mouser site.
