I am not sure how this will feed rounds into the chamber. That ring around the base means something more sophisticated than a simple reciprocating bolt will be required. Or is that two pieces with the center spindle rotating and the ring staying stationary like a drum mag? If so where is the mag outlet?

This was the very first two prints to verify spacing of rounds and cylinder ID. This will eventually have an outlet like an AR mag, but restricted to one side for a single feed system. Not all features are present that will be in the final product. There will be stationary curves that serve to push the rounds up against the feed lips.

Yes, the center portion rotates and the outside will be stationary with the helix. Similar to the calico 9mm mag.

I'm working on this in my free time and will post updates as it comes along. Originally I started from the Russian Bizon mag, but that was single stack only and designed for metal so it makes more sense for me to work from the American Calico mag.

Interesting. The Calico mag is a helix orientation where as this is a ring configuration. Are you thinking you will have it spiral like the Calico mag? I think that would be quite a challenge with the longer case length of these rounds. Are those .300 AAC? The increased case length would require a very steep traverse to rotation ratio.

Yeah it will have a stationary internal helix. The OD of the whole mag will be somewhere right around 3". This makes the climb of the helix pretty reasonable at ~2.5" climb/ 9.4" circumference.

That's .300 AAC alright. This is all experimental atm. There's a couple more guys in #FossCAD on the OFTC IRC network who are working on it. Really hoping this works out okay, if nothing else it will be good fun.
